During the Meiji period, jūkōbako incense boxes with outer covers were extremely rare and reserved for works of the highest quality. This example features togidashi maki-e with bush clover and pampas grass on all sides, and a taka-maki-e cover adorned with plum blossoms, making it an exceptional and refined piece.
